Hi everyone!!
Fungi are amazing and so is my apprenticeship so far this Autumn.
I’ve seen some beautiful parts of Scotland and found a fascinating range of grassland fungi.
A Highlight for me was a week long stay on Fair Isle (a small island off the coast of Shetland) and also a trip to Canna (one of the small Isles off the west coast of Scotland) Both involved lengthy and dramatic travel adventures to get there – think pirate ship at a theme park- and both had so many grassland fungi it was almost over whelming, I just couldn’t record them all in the time I had.
I’ve also led some workshops in fungi identification for National Trust of Scotland rangers and gardeners. This was great fun as it allowed me to jabber on about mushrooms all day and was also really rewarding to be sharing what I’ve learnt in the past year. Spreading the fungi love.
I’ve got three more weeks of mushroom survey madness before it all calms down and i’m spending my days looking down microscopes identifying all the difficult things I couldn’t do whilst out on the islands. I have hundreds of packets of dried mushrooms awaiting me!
