Hello all
So it’s been another fun few weeks out here. We moved all of our stacks and have begun planning for the experiment I will be carrying out this winter.
More importantly I have met a lot of the crofters we deal with out here and they were all very nice. I’ll be doing a few SRDP applications for them and also handing out cheques for the stacks they built so I can see why they’d be nice to me!
I had a flying visit from John and what a lazy get he was. He brought the weather with him which was nice but Jamie’s son did most of the work of heaving the corn out of the trailer. We spent more than a couple of hours in the pub and it was good to have some company down here. It was even better to get a vote of confidence about the level of work I’m doing. I gave him some PR chat about how great it is out here and although I rammed up the cheesiness, I do genuinely enjoy it out here, most of the time.
So I’m not sure what I’ve been up to since we last spoke, it feels like everything and nothing at the same time. There’s been a bit of computer work, a lot of chasing crofters around and of course battling the weather.
We spent a few days down at the site of my forthcoming experiment scoping out the area and luckily corn buntings visit the site. In fact I’ll attach a photo of a couple I took. I’m quite excited at the prospect of this experiment, if it goes well it could make a huge difference to the population. However it could be difficult to get the required amount of birds on site to look at and I’m sure the weather is going to annoy me more than a few times. It’s dark at 5pm now so this will be interesting to see how it pans out.
Anyway I’ll update when I have something big, shouldn’t take too long as I’ll be doing SRDP applications soon and the first results of the experiment will come soon. In the meantime have a look at the photos.
