As we move into one of our busiest seasons our EVS are kept very busy with seed processing, digging up of trees, grading and preparing beds for sowing.
Dulce Belo:
“This month has been very busy, beside the normal activities in the Tree Nursery, collecting and stratifying seeds, we also started digging up trees for heeling in, and I have to say that it’s very rewarding to watch a process, that I helped to start come to an end; all the way from sowing, through weeding, watering, digging and the finally heeling in.
We too had a great event in Ormeau Park, Belfast, The Big Green Weekend.The tree nursery was represented showing all the native trees that we grow. We had a lot of family activities like the climbing wall, archery and an abundance of environmental activities!!
We where able to get to know other colleagues from other offices from TCV which was very nice.

Also this month I had the time to go to an art exhibition of local artists, and see all the talent that Bangor hides.

And finally the Autumn Festival in Crawfordsburn Country Park, where we had the opportunity to connect with local people, making badges for children and planting crab apple seeds.”
Nicole Unger:
“This month the tree Nursery has been very active in dealing with the public. I had the chance to participate at the Big Green Weekend where we explained the different types of native trees and plants to the public. Another special day has been a public day in Crawfordsburn where the people could make their own badges, participate in a tree-quiz or smash apples to get the seeds. Through this we got the chance to talk to the local people.
Besides these two weekends we did bundling, seed collecting and digging at the tree nursery.

Except for the things that happened in the tree nursery, I went for a trip to Rathlinn Island. There I have seen different animals and impressive monuments.
Something special for me was the On-Arrival training. This is a training for all EVS. For four days we stayed in a hostel in Bushmills. We all came together and did some workshops in order to learn important things about EVS and about Northern Ireland. Moreover we went on excursions to the Giants Causeway and through the town of Bushmills.”
