Howdy y’all, it HAS been a while! As we took refuge in the van from thunder & lightning we had tea and contemplated the labyrinth we’re digging out and the meaning of life etc. With the warm wet weather we’ve had this ‘summer’ the garden has been looking rather lush, meaning that weeds have become rather prolific! But not to be beaten, the wildflowers and the herbs are doing well too.
We now have one lone poppy and many corn marigolds that we sowed back in spring/early summer. We’ve dug up 4 drills of potatoes and the peas that have survived the beady eyes of the wood pigeons are swelling in their pods. We got one or two strawberries but not many more (see above regarding aforementioned winged fruit n veg stealer). The garden unfortunately gets some less desirable visitors who have ripped out willow edging surrounding the wildflower and herb beds as well as potato plants. We shall await our session next week with crossed fingers n toes n waterproof elastic to see if the potatoes are OK underneath the safety of the soil.
Our latest venture is a Baltic Wheel Labyrinth, don’t you know. It takes our brains a wee while every session to try and get our heads around it…and around it and around…and around again and out! Taking shape and we’re wondering if pilots enroute to and from Edinburgh airport are wondering what on earth they are witnessing from the sky….corn circles? Nazca lines of West Lothian? Nope, the Howden Walled Garden Green Gymers having a ball!
Until next time…
