Tuesday
Today we burnt a lot of stuff. Mostly laurel. Dave the ranger and Chris had kindly chopped down quite a few trees and had pilled them in neatish piles for us to burn so we spent the day making sure the fire stayed in control but worked to capacity. Smelly work but someone has to do it!
Wednesday
Back at Berwick Law today to continue with our lovely path. A number of new anchor bars were carefully inserted and many stones were hauld up the hill closer to where they will be needed. A small group of non stone workers attacked some big clumps of gorse in an attempt to get rid of some of the cover for the pesky rabbits who are erroding the hill. We also cut a lot of turf from round in the quarry to use to make the edge of the path look pretty.Thursday
Winching began on Berwick Law! Anna had set aside 4 rather large stones that needed to somehow be transported up the hill to required spots…enter our friendly winch. After a bit of pinching and rolling, the 4 stones were moved to below the winch. Stone one began its troublesome trip up the hill, after a few hiccups and mad dashes the stone terminated at its destination. Lunch was then declared, one stone in one morning go team!! The rest of the group had battled on trying to make stones fit toghther in harmony, which they did very successfully. After lunch the winching team battled on with expertise they gained from the morning and the remaining 3 stones where raised with a kind of ease. The remaining group battled on with anchor bars, I think we are all getting Anna’s eye for stone work and the path is looking fantastic!
