I never realised how involved you can become in planning one event! I am currently taking the lead on sorting out our August family fun day “Go Wild at Sale Water Park”.
It’s brilliant to be able to pick the activities and who we have attending the event – a storyteller, willow weaver, pole lathe turner, local artist, a mini-farm (my personal favourite), a face painter, bouncy castle, the local fire service, the RSPB, the Greater Manchester Ecology Unit and the list goes on!
But it’s everything else that’s tricky! First of all deciding on the site, we then have to arrange to have someone to mow it, so we need to make sure we have keys to open the gate to the site, but before that I have to go down and cut down the saplings that have grown since the last mowing…
Then there’s checking costs for activities, asking for personal liability insurance and risk assessments, organising and sending purchase orders…
And that’s all before we’ve even planned out a map of the event…
… and created a flyer
… and distributed it of course
But fingers crossed we’re almost there! Plus it’s been a massive learning curve, I’ve made connections with tonnes of local community groups and businesses and most exciting of all, played a big part in planning an event for loads of people to enjoy!
I will let you all know how it goes and make sure to take lots of pictures on the day for my post event bit. But right now I have someone to email about a Forest Schools activity!
