Hey people hope everything is great with you all and you have been enjoying the fantastic spring weather that we have been having for the last couple of weeks. It’s been great to be outside getting amongst it and seeing the landscape transform into an array of colour and beauty around me. Well enough of the weather report although good weather does excite me greatly, the reason for this blog is to tell you about a great little open day event we had down at the Tree Life Centre recently.
Holding an event at this time of year is always going to be a gamble at the best of times, the weather in good ol Blighty at this time of year is unpredictable at best. It can either be raining for days on end with high winds and thunderstorms or on the flipside we can be bathed in luxurious sunshine with 20 plus degrees and light winds and with people getting over excited saying that its gonna be the hottest summer since 1976!
Well luckily for us we had the latter all which helped bring out the local people to have a fantastic day at the Tree life Centre. Things were due to kick off at around 11 o’clock so we all arrived at the site just after 9 to begin setting up and preparing for the activities for the day. Avon Wild Trust and Bristol Fairtrade also turned up for the event to show their support and to promote their own organisations. We had arranged a number of activities to run throughout the day which included pond dipping, mud painting, wood carving and willow weaving workshop and our own ace card the pizza oven which we fired up after lunch much to enjoyment of those in attendance. I also had my own stall outside on the grass on the path leading up to the site outlining what has been going on at the Tree Life Centre over the last few months and what exciting things we have planned for the coming months. We must have had well over 500 visitors through the gate on the day ranging from children to OAP’s, it was really great to see such a wide range of ages in attendance all having a good time and in turn highlighting that the Tree Life Centre has something for everyone.
The day proved to be a great opportunity to engage with the local community and to promote ourselves and TCV in a positive light. It was great to hear feedback from the public and to hear what they would like to see happening at the site in the future. Having such feedback gives a sound indication of where we should be heading in the future with regard to workshops, activities and events. We should be holding a range of workshops over the coming months for all ages and abilities, we are also looking to be holding a few more events over the summer so let’s pray for good weather. Although it might well be raining, but who cares.
