I am pleased to be able to say that we are beginning to see the first signs of spring here in The National Forest, the birds are singing, daylight hours are increasing, the snowdrops are out and most importantly I have had two ‘no coat days’ in the last couple of weeks.
My work with Tom and his volunteers here at TCV in The National Forest is continuing and I can now add bluebell planting to my list of tasks. This was carried out on a site at an old brickworks (Desford Brickworks Woods), it is amazing how The National Forest is being transformed with the creation of valuable woodland for people to enjoy. I am continuing my research on orchards and recently visited Calke Abbey (National Trust) where they have a very well managed site within a walled garden, it isn’t community run but I found it useful to see what the end result should look like. I also came across the names of apple varieties I had never heard of before.
Now looking forward to some more early spring sunshine and the yellow heads of the emerging daffodils.
