The last weekend of Spring was very busy here!
We had the launch of Carrickfergus in Bloom on Friday 30th May. Local school children and community representatives from throughout Carrickfergus Borough were all invited as well as council staff.
Every year the council runs the Carrickfergus in Bloom Community Competitions. Categories include Best Kept Garden for individuals, Best Kept Shop, Best Allotment, Painting and Poetry Competitions and the Tallest Sunflower Competition. I was out promoting the Carrick In Bloom Competitions on Saturday 31st at a community fun day which was being held in the Salthill area.
The same Saturday I had also organised a Community Plant Out event in the Eden area of Carrickfergus. The aim of this was to ‘Make Eden Beautiful’ and we provided pots, plants and compost for the community. There was a good turn out and I got good feedback so will be running another event soon.
We also ran a Birdsong Evening in Bashfordlands Wood on the Friday evening (30th May) with Dot Blakely from BBC Wild Week. There was another great turnout for this event and Dot was fantastic. The walk proved very educational for me – I can now distinguish a robin, wren and willow warbler song!
Finally – still the same weekend! I was wreaked by Sunday night! – I had a chance to stop in for a session at the Windsor Community Garden and there is more progress. More raised beds and plants in. The group are doing great.
