With spring’s arrival my diary is getting really busy with events, fun activities and great training courses.
A few weeks ago we celebrated Easter Day with Cultenhove Opportunities Partnership. Cultenhove is a disadvantaged neighborhood of Stirling. There were a lot of fun activities for everyone to enjoy indoors, such as looking at bugs and beastes under the microscope, arts & crafts (making owls and other cute animals with pine cones) . Moreover, as the weather gave us a break and we could enjoy a bug hunting walk in a green area close to the community center Everyone was really excited about this and no one came back empty handed! Here are some pictures of the day:
Anthony (Natural Communities Co-ordinator) and I run a scavenger hunt with Linkes this month as well. Linkes are based in Lincoln Avenue in Glasgow and with their weekly programme of activities they provide learning opportunities to the community.
The scavenger hunt was only the beginning of a series of activities that we are preparing to deliver in the summer. It seems like a very promising project and I look forward to our next sessions with them!
Last week I also had the opportunity to visit the West part of Scotland and it was absolutely amazing! Julie Smith (Natural Talent) is carrying out a bryophytes survey in an area known as McKenzie’s Grove on the west side of Loch Awe, near the village of Dalavich (the site is owned by the Forestry Commission). Heather (TCV Volunteer) and I also had some time to do some pond dipping and bug hunting in order to check the species of the area. Here two pictures of our adventures:
