I have been busy planting trees with schools and community groups recently during and following National Tree Week (23rd November – 1st December) which is an annual festival to mark the start of the tree planting season, and a nationwide celebration of trees and woods (more info at: http://www.treecouncil.org.uk/Take-Part/national-tree-week)
Between January 2000 – April 2013 Carrickfergus Borough Council planted 165,000 trees
Since April 2014, with the help of schools and community groups, we have planted another 1000+
Carrickfergus sea cadets planting 400 trees (mixture of native species) in Bashfordsland Wood, Carrickfergus
Whitehead primary school planting 50 Alder trees in Jubilee Wood, Whitehead
Members of Brighter Whitehead community group planting oak trees in Jubilee Wood, Whitehead, with Councillor Isobel Day and Mr Roy Lappin, who actually brought the acorns back from the Somme, Verdun and Marne regions of France and grew the trees up in his own garden before donating to Jubilee wood
Also managed to squeeze in some more hedgelaying!
