It’s been a busy month this one. I’ve generally been a busy bee preparing and organising for event (hence the title). The biggest event I’m focusing on at the moment if the Big Woodland Event happening in May. It’s pretty exciting being involved in organising what’s looking to be a really fantastic day. So far there’s going to be music, shelter building, arts and crafts, woodworking, woodland walks, bug walks, a chance to visit some local orchards and be a citizen scientist…. A really great opportunity to get people outside having fun in their local woods!
I’ve also been organising some up and coming ‘Transition Ripples’ events. The idea behind these is that through sharing knowledge informally in a group, people will be able to carry on and share the knowledge with others. As a result, I’m starting to work with volunteers to support them to be able to run their own events.
Not to be cooped up in the office, I’ve also been out and about in the woods working with the Wood for All project. Last Sunday was spent in the woods at Kippen planting trees with Kippen Community Woodland Group and Wood for All volunteers. We planted four hundred trees from The Woodland Trust including oak, ash, hazel, alder, hawthorn and blackthorn. The surprisingly glorious sunshine saw us with a fantastic turn out of all ages and we managed to get all of the trees planted in half of the time. Not to be stopped we then turned to some extremely muddy trench digging to help water flow into the pond. There were definitely a few silly giggles to be had at the squelchy noises and smells coming from the ground!
Some photos of our hard work!
This past week I’ve really begun to focus on raising awareness of Transition Stirling and trying to get more people involved. I went with Nikki from Transition’s Wood for All project to a ‘This is your Life’ event at Stirling Uni to host a stall and spread the word. I’ve also been busy learning all about social media and making my first foray into the world of twitter! You can follow my progress at @transitionstir
Bye for now!
