Food Glorious Food
So where to begin September was very busy for me with lots of training courses and events to plan. Firstly I had a Food Foraging Course with Anna. It was a very inspiring day whereby I got to explore the woods and pathways of Blackford Hill with a nice group of people.
Please see Anna website for more information:http://www.floramedica.org/
Anna told us about all types of food we can forage for, not only did we learn about what to eat we put it into practice. On this course were two keen chefs from The Spoon restaurant in Edinburgh. After a long walk and foraging session we headed back to the restaurant our lovely chefs cooked us up some glorious food using the bits and bobs that we had foraged.
So what wild things have I eaten in September?
Blackberries
Sorrel
Sea Buckthorn Berries
Elderberries
I then attended a Forest skills workshop which was great fun. When it came to foraging I felt very confident and showed others what I had leant.
Eating on the Wild Side was a public event that I helped out with it took place at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. I really enjoyed learning new things on the day and talking about the plants displayed to members of the public.
Yes more food you can eat i like knowing what edible I’m such a greedy guts.Fuchsia Berries( yes you can eat these when they turn black.)
So with all that training and my wild, ever growing obsession with foraging your wondering… how, why what’s the point? Well on the trip with the Health All Round to Holyrood Park by shear coincidence of course we kept coming across lots of edible food! My group loved the sorrel so much and described it a Lemon Sherbet!
Small Mammal Course
Are we ready for a change in topic? Thought so, to take my mind away from plants I decided to sign up for a Small Mammals Course at Kidrogen field centre. It was amazing and my new hobby may well be mammal trapping!
The below pose was inspired by ‘American’s Next Top Model’
I loved every minute of this course. I am inspired to head out in the morning and simply hide away quietly and wait for wildlife to walk on by.
The Marsh Orchid Meadow Launch
Okay and lastly, my personal project. The aim was to create a wildflower meadow at Drylaw Neighborhood Centre. It has taken a lot of research and planning.
