With the festive period upon us in rather quick fashion and we are now on our Christmas holidays (more about that to come) it’s that time of the month for another quick update about the goings on at the Tree Life Centre!
With many activities being very weather dependant the extreme swings in conditions over our three working weeks certainly curtailed many jobs. With one week the site being very boggy, the next frozen solid and then the final week slowly turning into a bog again much of the general site maintenance was not completed in time for our Christmas break, but these things can’t be helped!
A quick re-wind to the end of November as just after our previous update we completed a fruit tree order for the guys at More Trees for Bath and North East Somerset. A fantastic fairly local charity (to us) who promote planting of more trees around Bath and North-East Somerset. The fruit trees were destined to be given away thanks to being paid for by the local council ward funding and given away to the people of that ward.
The two festive events we attended at the Create Centre and our home at Grimsbury Farm were a huge success and we were so pleased to see so many familiar faces and make many new friends. As ever the hand-made reindeers proved very popular with all of them selling but don’t forget you can buy trees from us all year round, so could get in early and buy a potted Norway Spruce ready for next Christmas! Also, the other goodies we had on our stalls, and various other things, are available all year round from the charity’s national website.
Our diploma students have taken the opportunity of the poor weather to catch up on the theory side of the course having the chance to use a room on the farm site with central heating, although this is providing new distractions for assessor and students alike! Also, most of our level two students went on a three day woodland management course run by our regional TCV centre. For more information about the courses run by them click here.
Finally, on our last day of volunteering before Christmas we had a little group party with many of our volunteers from across the week attending. A good time was had by all with plenty of food eaten, even the farm pigs got in on the food as they happily ate our leftovers!
Everyone here hopes you all had a Merry Christmas and have a happy and healthy New Year. Thank you to everyone who has supported over the past 12 months and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2013!
Parish Notices:-
