Hello and welcome to another monthly blog update from the Tree Life Centre! We hope this blog find you well as Autumn is well and truly come in on us, with the weather slowly turning to feel more seasonal than that we had at the beginning of the month. As regular readers are aware, October is a sheer mammoth month for us for a variety of reasons and I hope to get across everything we have been doing, but as usual I have probably missed out some things!
We kicked off the month with our annual celebration of conservation and all the good work the charity does not only locally, but also nationally…The Big Green Weekend! With the weather set fine we had our most successful event to date with a whole host of families, young and old, coming to see us and a few of our friends, and getting involved in plenty of family friendly outdoor activities with a rewards of marshmallows over the fire to finish off. we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came, we hope you enjoyed the day and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.
Unfortunately this will probably be the last public event of the year we put on but we have plenty of ideas for potential ones in 2016 so keep your eyes peeled on our Facebook and Twitter for announcements in the New Year!
As part of our continued partnership with South Gloucestershire Council we have spent the month going out in teams of volunteers to help continue to improve the local community green spaces within the Council. Regular readers will be aware over the last Autumn, Winter and early Spring we planted native trees and wildflowers acroos a whole host of sites with local residents and friends of groups. We returned to the tree planting sites to see if the sapplings had survived and which ones needed replacing, also earmarking areas that need further wildflowers planted.
Finally, we hosted a special event for local community groups based around safe working practices for conservation activities, including correct tool use. If you are a memeber of a comunity group and would wish to take part in any further events similar to this then please do contact us as we are looking to run further events in the future.
