It’s time for all those lovely little ghost and ghouls to come and visit you so put those pumpkins out, give us all your sweets…or alternatively shut the curtains and read our monthly update of life here just outside Bristol at the Tree Life Centre! (We will still take all your sweets if they are on offer though…or biscuits…or home made cake for that matter!)
Anyway, in all seriousness what a busy month we have all enjoyed! Now the nights are really drawing it we are also coming into our most active period now that the bare rooted tree planting season begins in November. Much work has been put in around the centre preparing the beds and taking a list of stock ready for all the moving and rearranging of the trees now they have had a good growing summer and hopefully being able to sell our lovely trees. If you are interested and wanting native trees and apple trees for your own green space, be it a garden, community space or school; then please do get in touch and we will happily try our best to meet your requirements.
October has been full of different events for us, what with joining in the national TCV Big Green Weekend event where we opened our doors on the Saturday with loads of family activities including face painting, and giving the public a good idea of the good work we do as a charity both locally and on a national level. The following weekend the Friends of Grimsbury Farm, where we are based, held an apple day so again we flung open the doors to try and promote our apple trees. Also, we paid a visit to the UWE to again promote our centre at their own ‘Farmers Market’ for charities etc. and sell many of our lovely goodies. A huge ‘thank you’ and ‘hope to see you all again soon’ to everyone who came down and met us at all three events. Finally, we hosted our very own TCV CEO this week which was great to show off all our hard work!
Finally everyone has been busy with the finally stages of seed collecting/sorting/preparing/sowing so we can grow many more lovely native species before all the trees go dormant and the seeds rotten. With this also being the focus for our diploma students trying different methods of sowing into our new seed bed areas and beyond, hopefully we will be having a bumper ‘crop’ in the near future!
