Hello everyone and welcome to this, the first update of goings on at the Tree Life Centre in 2014! We all hope the turn of the new year has been good for you so far, as ever we have been very busy, and not just avoiding the contrasting weather conditions by hiding in the cabin with the gas fire on and the kettle boiling away! Also, some of the group have been using the produce from the edible plants project and making various soups, the recent potato and leek creation was a particular success, just a shame not all of us got to try it…including me! Anyway, on with the rest of the update…
Due to the weather the main activities throughout the month have been general site maintenance, repairing beds and other parts of the site including the many bays we have for storage. The whole process certainly helps everyone understand the workings of the centre especially with much mulching taking place when the beds are repaired and the need to keep everything tidy and up together, especially so we can be more organised for selling things, such as the wildflowers. Which has also led to many trays of seeds being sown! Hopefully we will have plenty of new trees and flowers to sell by the summer.
The diploma guys have been their usual busy selves with lots of hardwood cuttings both being taken and potting up some taken previously that were successful. Also some of the Level One students received their certificates to say they had passed with flying colours so many congratulations to them! If you would wish to come along and join a diploma group then please do contact us to find out more information. At the moment we won’t be starting a fresh group until April at the earliest but you can still come along and volunteer, find out more about the course and give one of our sessions a taster to see if it’s for you!
As with last month we have had many orders from our other TCV groups in relation to the partnership with Western Power Distribution. Also we have supplied Wiltshire County Council with various native species and sundries. Don’t forget, if you require any native species of tree or hedgerows and want to support a great national conservation charity, and of course a community project then please do contact us and we will try our best to meet your needs. Also we have many varieties and sizes of apple trees for £15 each! All our trees have been grown and nurtured by us organically, so why not pop by and see us, whilst you are here you can pick which trees you want!
Finally, did you know we were in this months edition of Somerset Life magazine? The article was about life at our centre along with the good work TCV does within the region and the across the country. The online version of the article can be found here.
