Starting the day it was cold and wet wintery morning, but it wasn’t raining which is always good! There was a new volunteer who was lovely and got stuck into the work like a real trooper.
We were in Milngavie at the start of the West Highland Way. We were asked to line a path with railway sleepers, to filter the bikes and feet that damage the Milngavie in Bloom flower beds, and to help clear a plant bed for some new planting in spring.
We dug the holes for the sleepers which were imbedded in a clay soil with many thick roots to cut through. However, we got to use a mattock which reminded me of the dwarfs in snow white and made quick work or the troublesome roots!
Before we knew it the sleepers were in and we were moving on to the plant beds, were some of the plants were unruly and tangled. We dug and pulled until the plants came out by the roots. It didn’t look very pretty in the end but with the soil cleared it will allow the area to be planted and looking lovely for next year.
