St Joachim’s is a small primary school in the Carmyle area in south-east Glasgow with a lovely wooded area planted with young deciduous trees. The Glasgow Conservation Volunteer Group were on site for 4 days to help transform the area by creating a woodland path, building wooden bird feeders and bug hotels and weaving a willow dome and tunnel.
When we started last week the weather was unseasonally hot and sunny (dare I say almost too hot to work!). When we returned today to finish off the project we were subjected to icy winds and snow showers! As the old saying goes “nae cast a cloot till May is oot” (or don’t take your vest off until the May flower – Hawthorn – is in blossom).
But in true TCV volunteer style the team worked tirelessly to create something that the children (and local wildlife) will definitely enjoy.
