On Thursday we had a bit of a departure from the usual bog rejuvenation to undertake a project at Salters Gate School. Over the course of a few hours we transformed the area, with improved access for the school to the woodland thanks to new paths. We even constructed and installed a small bridge over a wee stream. The area had been used for fly tipping in the past, thankfully these dumped materials came in handy with all of our jobs, with the large blocks of asphalt in particular good at shoring up large holes in the area. We also left the site with a new outdoor classroom complete with comfy log seating and a fire pit.
Everything we achieved today we did with next to no materials (we had 3 railway sleepers to make the bridge) everything else we sourced from site but despite this we transformed a previously unused patch of woodland into a functional green space.
Today’s task really showed what a bit of ingenuity, some good planning and a group of hardworking volunteers can accomplish!
