I’ve been on holiday for a few weeks and was delighted to come back to one of my favourite jobs – path clearance! On Wednesday the Glasgow Mid-Week Group headed over to Bridge of Weir to work on a very overgrown path beside the Locher Water. This fast flowing burn still feeds the town’s leather works upstream and once supplied water to Locher Mill.
The track is one of Renfrewshire’s old Rights of Way and climbs from the busy A761 road through a gate and up beside a beautiful old, well-established Hawthorn hedgerow. At one time it appears that it would have been a local beauty spot as there are old iron railings beside the steep drops down to the waterfalls.
Breaking through the undergrowth
Our 12-strong team made light work of hacking and lopping back the undergrowth and managed to clear a good, wide pathway – great work guys!
Accessible at last!
If you would like to explore this walk – and others in the Bridge of Weir area – see the Railways and Leather walk in this local leaflet:
