Today was the second massacring of Himalayan Balsam at Cleddans Burn in Drumchapel. The mid-week group had their third attempt at trying to eradicate the Himalayan Balsam and I have to say they worked very hard and seemed to revel in the destruction. Himalayan Balsam grows very quickly, but the guys did a great job at making sure the invasive pest felt the fear. The added bonus of the day was the different butterfly species on display. We spotted loads of small tortoise shell and meadow brown, as well others that were camera shy. Below are some of the photos I managed to take.
I have to admit the volunteers gave me strange looks as I bound across the burn trying to get the perfect shot. After lunch we collected twigs for a bug hotel that is part of a project for a wildlife garden in Kilmarnock. The sun was shining all day and everyone left with happy faces at the drop off point.
