Preston Street Primary School

February 24, 2014 by TCV Edinburgh

When we got to Preston Street Primary School we were surprised to find we were not the only ones lending a hand to the project considering it was half term.
With our extra team of helpers we got under way with taking apart a rotten flower bed which we turned into a bench. A rather big log was craned over the school hedge and was then shifted to other end via forklift and several helpers.
Other materials that were craned over the hedge were soil and bark chippings. We used the soil to help fill some tires that we had arranged into a circle towards the front of the School. This took quite a while to do but thanks to the all the volunteers we managed to get it all done before planting willow which we used to make a dome. This should hopefully grow in the summer with plenty of flowers.
From the dome to the entrance of the School we remade the path with wood chippings on either side. We bordered the wood chipping with small logs to keep them in place leaving a nice tarmacked curvy path.
At the start of the wood chipped path we also made another willow arch which should sprout flowers in the summer.
While we had a lot to do we managed to do it all in one day thanks to all the people who came out to help, this included many of the children from the school, their parents, and Sainsbury’s who even provided us with plenty free food. This was the first time we have had press at a TCV day out!
Pictures to follow.
