On Monday 11th November, the Glasgow Midweek Group headed down the M74 to the beautiful town of Biggar in South Lanarkshire. It was a longer than usual drive to the site but we enjoyed our journey through the beautiful autumn countryside.
Our task for the day was to help clear overgrown wildflower terraces in Burnbraes Park. The area we were working on had been donated to a local community group. The ground was very steep and had been terraced and planted about 12 months ago but had become overgrown with grasses and weeds (the dreaded Rosebay Willowherb was in abundance!).
But, sometimes, the simplest of tasks can make a big difference: we worked hard to clear the weeds and grasses and before long the wooden terraces were revealed and the Willowherb was banished to the nearby woods.
When we left for the day we were happy that we had helped the community by clearing the terraces for next year’s wildflower display.
