The Mid-Week group returned to Pollok Park on 7th October to continue to remove soft rush from an area near the Burrell Collection car park and children’s playground.
The Council’s long-term plan is to turn this area into a wildflower meadow. Rush thrives in wet, boggy areas and its removal will help improve ground drainage and support the success of wildflowers.
The group worked hard digging out the large clumps of rush which we piled up for collection. We then planted a variety of wildflower plugs and scattered seeds across the area. Before leaving for the day, the group also dug out a large number of well-established dock plants from a grassier area nearby.
This is a work-in-progress and I’m sure we’ll be back to battle the remaining rush!
