Work began last week on a large 6 week project at the Royal Edinburgh Greenbank ward. The high dependency housing at the Hospital is being completely refurbished and with that comes the creation of some new gardens for the residents.
The mid week volunteers began on the layout and creation of 3 new gardens in this first week of the project. The boundaries of the 3 gardens were being plotted as we entered onto what looked like a building site! By the end of the first day, the volunteers had successfully cut the turf and borders into shape and churned up the top soil ready for planting in the first garden. Wednesday involved putting in timber edging to line the borders of the grassed areas and flower borders as well as planning out where a seating area and raised planters will be going. And finally Thursday saw the volunteers starting on the layout and cutting of turf for the second garden as well as placing in more timber edging to tidy the edges up and prevent weeds.
This is going to be a long on-going project with some hopefully fantastic results. Photographs of our ongoing progress will be up soon to show off just what great and speedy progress the volunteers have been making! Watch this space!!!
