Wednesday’s volunteer group group were out at Hailesland this week continuing work on the Centre’s community gardens. Work has been ongoing here for several months with new tasks popping up as the weeks progress.
This week’s main task was the finish and tidy-up a “concrete waterfall” which had been started and worked on by several corporate and volunteer groups. The waterfall was designed to give young children the opportunity to see how water would flow around the various bends and obstacles in the “river”. The first task was to tidy up the top of the waterfall (see photo1) where large slabs were places and smaller stones concreted around to create a pretty and sturdy beginning to the waterfall.
Then at the bottom of the waterfall, a drainage feature was first installed in order to catch the water as it flowed down the hill and prevent any waterlogging of the ground. Over this drainage was then places a very pretty circular concrete feature with embedded pebbles and slabs in a sun-dial design. The end result was really stunning and we are all sure that the kids will thoroughly enjoy using their new waterfall.
