The Green Gymers and the garden are loving the prolonged summer and sunshine and took a break from weeding and digging and labyrinth trimming to have a cuppa in the shade of the willowy pathway and rested themselves on the log seats. We discussed what we could be doing next in the garden and watched the butterflies and bees dance around the herbs and wildflowers. All very poetic! We could write poetry! There’s an idea that we’ll keep you posted on.
Not letting the fact that visitors to the garden have taken the last of the vegetables leaving the volunteers none, we’re preparing ground to plant some sensory plants from the CSV Action Earth Grab a Grant money. Power tools will also be in the garden soon to put the final finishing touches to the loopy labyrinth, which will almost be a year old!
We had Cabbage Whites and Peacock butterflies sniffing around the peppermint and spearmint, with some company from several different bees and hoverflies.
The meadow has lasted well with many poppies and marigolds holding their own in the sunshine, fewer daisies now. The nasturtiums are having their turn now with many more to keep the lone one we had in the beginning company.
West Lothian Council very kindly supplied a noticeboard to allow the garden to keep passers by, locals and other visitors up to date with the goings on in the garden. The gang will install it as soon as we find out where all the underground services are, would hate to put a spade through a water main, gas pipe or electricity cable…
