This week the Edinburgh mid week volunteers were at Easter Lockhart hill, which is a lovely pond and woodland area located next to the Lockhart tennis centre. The main focus of the work here was to crown lift and thin the vegetation growing over the paths surrounding the pond and wood in the hope of letting a bit more light through the canopy thereby increasing visibility and making them a bit less intimidating. A lot of this work was done with loppers and bow saws although some of the taller branches required the attention of TCV’s fancy new pole saw.
The second part of the job was to clear a drainage channel that had been dug all the way up the hill by the rangers service to reduce the likelihood of flooding nearby houses. Most of the debris in the channel was just loose leaves and soil but the sheer length of the drain and the steepness of the slope made this task hard work. The end result however was very pleasing even if the dry weather meant that the team didn’t get to see their work in action. On the whole this was another very successful job for the midweek team!
