Last Thursday the Edinburgh midweek group spent the day down at the River Almond walkway improving the paths and filling in a few potholes. Armed with three wheelbarrows some shovels and some good old fashioned elbow grease the team succeeding in spreading 8 tonnes of material along the length of the path! This should hopefully make the walkway much more accessible when the bad weather returns.
The team actually completed this task in record time, so, much to everyone’s dismay, there was still time for a couple of hours picking Himalayan Balsam. Himalayan Balsam is an invasive species that is becoming an increasing problem across the UK and in a number of locations in Edinburgh in particular. It is an easily recognisable plant (just use google images) and even easier to up root so if you see any when out and about in Edinburgh, we at TCV along with the Edinburgh Rangers service would be very grateful if you could take some time to pull some up and simply hang it from any nearby trees to stop it re-growing.
