Last week the construction of the sensory garden at Oaklands school continued on track, with the path already in place, it was now time for the volunteers to begin planting the wide selection of flowers and shrubs. With the finished result already looking good, I can only imagine with some careful watering and a bit of summer sun by the end of the school holidays the garden will have flourished.
Volunteers also begun removing turf to allow for the embedding of the wooden posts to protect the garden from the car park. All the excess turf was then used to create a bank round the other edge of the car park. Whilst this was going on some of the other volunteers cleared an area that was described by some as “Jurassic park” although by the end of the day however it was totally unrecognisable.
With the delivery of some wooden seats and concrete this week hopefully the whole project can be finished off and the children will have a fantastic new outdoor play area.
P.s A special thanks has to given to one of the teachers who baked us some great muffins, which were much appreciated after the hard days weeding.
