What a lovely day with an even lovelier view.
The snow dusted Kilpatrick Hills and Ben Lomond with its snow covered peak looked over the Clyde to our hilltop site where we tried in vain, and mostly succeeded, to put in a willow screen near the pond in the new housing development in Port Glasgow. It was a cold day though! And the icy rock hard ground proved that! We used pinch bars to make holes for the main willow stalks and managed to get the smaller cuttings in by hand with a bit of gentle force. We had a slightly shrunken team but we worked hard and got the screen up by lunchtime. All we have to do now is wait until springtime to see if it takes – fingers crossed…that is if you can still feel your fingers…
There was a bit of willow left so it will be kept with the roots in water until the ground softens up a bit so a few gaps can be filled in the screen before growing season properly starts. The gang were chuffed with their efforts and commented on how good it looked. I’m sure they were talking about the willow and not the amazing view…
I think John was particularly pleased with his efforts and particularly cold!
Thanks again to all the hard work and effort put in by the volunteers of Parklea Branching Out!
