Last week we started a new project at Gartmore Primary School, near Aberfoyle. The project involves creating a hedge from a row of young blackthorn and hazel trees. To do this, we cut through most of the stems so we can bend the tree close to the ground. Then the trees can be interweaved to create a hedge shape. Hopefully over the next few years the trees begin to form a living hedge.
This project is providing a great opportunity for the volunteers to learn a new and interesting skill. It certainly makes a change from bashing Rhoddies at Muiravonside!
It’s a careful job so it takes time to get right. In two days we layed about six metres of hedge, despite the horrible weather on Thursday. We’ll keep you updated as the project develops.
