We picked a good day to plant up our plot at the Glenburn Community Growing Grounds, the sun shone for most of the afternoon. Not only did the seeds and plants need watering, so did the volunteers!
We’ve carried out a lot of work on the site, helping dig over the waste ground to prepare it for plots for planting, cutting back the encroaching vegetation and clearing the paths.
The reward for all this hard work was our own wee plot to plant up some veggies.
We put in: Radish, Carrots, Beetroot, Spinach, Dwarf Beans and Lettuce (all in neat little rows) and also put in 2 Courgette plants that had been grown in smaller pots. The plot already had a few tattie plants so we left those to see what they would yield later in the year.
This was a new experience for most of the volunteers but they thoroughly enjoyed it and are looking forward to harvest time!
