Our Midweek group last Wednesday had a different task to normal, helping Cromarty Firth Fisheries Trust “plant” salmon fry in The Blackwater. As we do so much invasive species removal with/for them it’s nice to see, and get a chance to take part in, some of their other activities and get the broader picture of what they are involved in. It’s also a good direct way to let the volunteers see who/what/why we are doing so much invasive species removal along with river systems.
Once the fry was moved from the hatchery to their transportation tanks, it was off up the Ullapool road – such great weather meant it would have been nice to continue on 😉 However, we were going to have to leave the day trips for another day!
We stopped the vehicles at the Black Bridge, just south of Glascarnoch Dam and started the process of “planting” the fry.
Yep, it’s as easy at it looks folks – just a handful size from the bucket tipped into a nice wee spot that looks homely for the wee swimmers!
And look at the view and location! If ever there was an advertisement to volunteer with us up here in the Highlands surely this is it!
Obviously we cannot guarantee the weather to always be sunny and clear, nor the destination to be as gorgeous ALL the time… but still!
More photos can be found over on our old flickr page, or our new one.
All photographs from this day were taken by our regular volunteer Mark.
