Midweek Group 23 – 27 April 2012
So after thinking our last rhododendron had been cleared for a while, last week saw us back out at Balvaird Wood to clear some more. This was because the Himalayan Balsam we had been planning on tackling has not yet appeared!
Balvaird Wood itself is a lovely spot to work – even in the rain! New VO Esther got stuck right in and we’ve decided she is a natural rhodie clearer. Her finger looked slightly horrifying for a while, but we soon realised she was bleeding, although the dye in our gloves were.
The rhodies can seem a never-ending task but once you step back and see the dark circle of where’s been cleared it gives a nice wee boost to the motivation, as do the massive piles we create!
VO’s Esther and Gillian are also not to be beaten – any monster rhododendron root is not free from their clutches – they weren’t going to leave until they got this baby out!
