Rhododendron Bashing – 7th February 2012
Last Tuesday the Midweek Group was back out in force at the rhododendron bashing on the River Orrin. When we found our next spot to be cleared it became apparent that a few rhododendrons were trying to evade the chop by growing on some “islands”. The threat of wet feet is nothing to our volunteers though, and successful jumps (well, big steps) meant that no rhododendron was left unrooted! Even if it was, Ed (one of the river bailiffs) is never far behind us to finish the job completely.
L-R: Elspeth & our new VO Mairi getting stuck in; Aaron & Charlotte tackling a beast of a rhodie; This one won’t escape Elspeth & Callum
L-R: There is always a robin nearby, keeping an eye on us; No rhodie is safe from Duncan; Ed showing us how those big unmovable roots are in fact moveable!
L-R: Bruce & Callum working hard; Mark is still smiling by the end of the day; Elspeth is mega pleased with our progress
Again, we offered the camera out to the volunteers and both Sammy and Aaron took some cracking photos, so today’s post comes courtesy of their photos as well – more of which will be uploaded to our flickr page in due course.
