Rhododendron Clearance – 10 Feb 2012
The Midweek group were back out on Friday at the River Orrin, this time further upstream, clearing the dreaded rhododendrons. No one is complaining yet thought, with one volunteer even declaring that he’d do rhodie clearing every day of the year! Now that’s what we like to hear from our vols.
The excitement of today was that it was another chance for a bonfire!
The rhododendrons in this stretch of the river have just overtaken the area, both on the ground and reaching to the sky! Not only that, the area is part bog, so there was some strategic bridge building with dead logs and much squelching of wellies – and even a few near misses with wellies being eaten by the mud. VO Gillian was seen hopping about on one leg until someone was kind enough to rescue her boot!
