Tuesday
This week we were joined by the latest group of Forest and Environment Learning Partnership recruits (or FELPers as we like to call them). So it was back to Callendar Woods. We were met by Roz, the Ranger who tolds us that we would be comtinuing where we had started before removing conifers and rhododendron to open up the woodland and make it more inviting for people and wildlife. We also welcomed back Kate who has joined us as head of health and safety until she has fully recovered. In the afternoon Fiona started her attack against a rhododendron she has a personal vendetta against but soon discovered that it was a slightly bigger job than she imagined.
Wednesday
Callendar Wood again today. This time we brought mattocks in an attempt to dig out the rhododendron roots and stop them growing back! After lunch there was more chopping down and chopping up of conifers before we headed home.
Thursday
Today we headed back to Gorebridge Community Garden to finish off our lovely fence. Threatened with snow we put in a big effort in the morning to get the fence finished before the weather closed in. However at lunch time the sun was still shining and we realised that once again the weather forcast had got it wrong. We spent the afternoon putting new chippings down on the path and finished up slightly early.
