This week we were in Buckhaven to help make a path in an unused piece of land that is to become a small school garden. The site was quite overgrown so first we had to clear some of the grass and brambles. Then we marked out a nice little circular route winding around the apple trees that have grown on the site, which I’m told make yummy apples in season.
After this we dug small trenches around the rout of the path so that the lining and log edging could be securely placed in and then got to work lining the entire path to make sure no more weeds would grow over it once it was finished. Unfortunately we ran out of pegs to secure the lining about half way round! But this was no challenge for our group and we simply made more with some of the wire from the broken fence on the site.
Whilst all of this was going on some brave souls were attempting to clear the huge volume of litter on the site. They did a fantastic job, tirelessly removing crisp packet after crisp packet, even when we were digging more up!
So at the end of our two days we had marked out the path and lined it ready for the edging and bark to be laid next week and removed about ten bags of litter. Thanks to the hard work of the group the site is a safer and more accessible place for the local school children to enjoy in the future.
