TUESDAY
We were back at Bridgend Allotments today in the glorious sun shine. The team were continuing with the hard work started on Thursday, which included constructing an easy access path and steps. The team split into three with Phil, Derek and I starting to cut out wood panels to construct our wonderful steps, however, Phil was soon stolen from us to start mixing concrete for the easy access path so Derek and I struggled on alone. Peter, Neil and Tobias cracked on beside the chalet digging and prepping the area to start the top end of the easy access path…which in the heat was not an easy task! The rest of the team prepped the bottom end of our wonderful steps and then began to start the access path.
The sun shone the whole day and lit up our hard work for all the other busy allotments residents to see and admire.
WEDNESDAY
Wednesday, thankfully, was milder than tuesday, meaning that the volunteers weren’t covered in sweat and stinking sweetly of coconut suntan cream. Rachel and her part of the team cracked on with constructing the steps, sawing, hammering adjusting nailing and gnashing their teeth collectively when things went awry. The steps became more spaced out as they neared the bottom of the slope and at the end of the day, once they had filled in all the individual step boxes with hardcore and whin dust, any professional tradesman would have stepped back in awe at the shining glory of these superb pieces of work. Tobias myself and Alan progressed along the path by about six slabs which wasn’t bad considering we only spent about two and a half hours at the job. Everything s starting to take shape at Bridgend and I wouldn’t be surprised if there weren’t jostling crowds of growers gazing at our carefully crafted masterpiece by the end of this wednesday.
THURSDAY
Thursday saw us continue the work at Bridgend and I’m told we laid many more slabs going on up the hill and layered Type 1 at the top of the steps.
