So as you are aware, Kerr has now finished up his 6 month placement with us and as you might expect I have already fallen behind with the blog – oops.
During April the volunteers have been a busy bunch. The Tuesday group have been working at the community garden, spreading compost, sowing the first vegetable seeds and finishing off the work bench for the greenhouse ready for some tomatoes, peppers and chillies. Let hope we get a bumper crop of veggies this year, as we have now extended our growing area within the community garden.
The Linwood group have also been helped at Braemont Care Home in Glenburn, ahead of their community crops event this month. Finally the group helped local Forestry Commission Ranger up at Windyhill Woods in Johnstone. We managed to get a wee fire going to burn the gorse but there were no marshmallows on this occaision.
April also saw the end of the current Thursday group. Although this is sad news, it is only a temporary break in Thursday activities. Fingers crossed a new project will be starting up in June and the gang will be out again soon. So think of it as an extended holiday and I will be seeing you all again soon. To celebrate all the hard work of the Thursday volunteers we had an Easter bbq at the Community Garden. The sun was shining and the burgers were delicious (and a bit charred). It was a great afternoon and Kerr also came along with a massive chocolate cake he made himself. This pleased everyone, as for the last 6 months we have all been on at Kerr to bake something for us, and he finally did it. So thanks for baking, think we will all need to do a bit of digging to work off all the food we ate!
Enjoy the upcoming bank holiday weekend and see you all soon.
