On Tuesday we were out at East Fulton woods where we were cutting back vegetation along the fence line and also doing some litter picking. Last week was our last Wednesday session so Robbie joined us for the first time on a Tuesday. We started off by working our way along the fence line cutting back various bushes and brambles while some of the group were doing that Jim, Scott and myself went into to the woods to start the long process of removing the litter.
While we were in there we discovered a few trees had been blown over in the storms of the past few weeks son Robert and Ken got to work on removing any dangerous pieces of fallen tree that might fall on unsuspecting passers by. After tea break with all of the fence line looking neat and tidy we all went onto litter picking duties and we amassed a haul of 6 bags.
As I previously mentioned we didn’t have a Wednesday group last week as the previous session was the last ever but don’t worry though as the Wednesday volunteers won’t be missing out as they have all been redistributed to either the Tuesday or Thursday groups. I’m sure you will all look forward to meeting them again although those of you who were at the Christmas quiz will probably met most of them already.
On Thursday it was everyone’s favourite day of the month as we were back at Muirshiel.
The forecast said it would be nice weather and I’m pleased to report that the rain held off all day. We got to Muirshiel to discover that the particular patch that we had been working on only had a little section left to complete. We quickly got to work cutting away the rhoddys making light work of it. Ian and Jim once again got the fire roaring in no time meaning that the people cutting could really get into it and cut big sections ready to be burned. Eddy even got so carried away that he cut a tree down by mistake, I won’t be letting him forget that one. Time flew in and it was lunchtime before we knew it. After lunch we headed back out to our section and in no time at all there were no rhoddys left standing it was now time to dispose of the piles of cuttings that had been amassed. I at this point had decided to help out getting everything into the fire and it made me realise that I would not make a very good fireman as I chose the wrong side of the fire to work on the side with all the smoke.
At the end of the day I think we can all be delighted with our efforts especially seen as our section was finally finished and it was a huge transformation, now on to the next. Well done to everyone involved it was a huge amount of work.
Thank you again to all our volunteers
