On Tuesday we were out at East Fulton Woods where we were tidying up the vegetation along the fence line of the area. We started off by cutting back all of the brambles and over grown grass which seemed like an unending task but we persevered and by tea time the entire fence line was looking much tidier so well done everyone. After our tea break we decided to head into he woods to do a litter pick and to try and clear the branches away to create a route through the woods.
We discovered that we could easily get a few more sessions out of the woods. At the same time we were litter picking and found some interesting things such as a car battery and some objects arranged to make a sort of hut. As it got to the end of the we headed back to the van only to discover that we had left Jim and Ken in the woods so I had to go back in and scour the place looking for them of course I found them both working away at the other side of the woods not knowing that it was time to leave. You know what they say time flies when you’re having fun.
On Wednesday everyone was out at Bluebell woods although I was away on a course.
This was our last Wednesday session although not the last session for our Wednesday volunteers who will be joining our other groups. I know however that once again it was a great effort from everyone and they got a good haul of litter and other assorted objects. Julie also presented Robbie with a certificate for his Youth Achievement award so well done to Robbie!
On Thursday we went to Newshot Island in Erskine. I had never been to this site before so was looking forward to it. After a struggle to find a parking space we unloaded the van and headed into the woods clearing the paths of litter and any overhanging branches as we went.
The most interesting object we found was a large piece of steel cable that must have come from a ship sailing down the Clyde. After tea break we headed further into the woods where Eddy got to enjoy one of his favoured Green Gym activities, cutting back brambles. He also tried to race me with the wheelbarrows which ended up turning into a slow paced race with him blocking me on the path at every opportunity he could.
Thanks to all our volunteers once again.
