On Tuesday we were out at the Linwood Community Garden where we had cuttings from the week before to load onto a cage. We had 3 ton bags full before we even started on the piles of hedge from the bottom end of the garden.
In total I think we cleared away 8 full ton bags. We also set about the other fence line with even more vegetation needing cut back. Special mention needs to go to Allan and Ken who had the precarious job of balancing on the steep slope while cutting the hedge. I have to say it took great skill to not fall down the hill as I’m sure a couple of you will testify to. By the end of the day the garden was looking great and we even had some positive feedback from some dog walkers so well done guys.
On Wednesday we were back at Hillview nursery and Ferguslie Sports centre. Now for anyone who was there you won’t want reminding of this but the weather was atrocious and by atrocious I mean horizontal rain.
To everyone’s credit this didn’t affect their work rate and we were quickly done with weeding the patio at the back of the nursery. After the nursery was finished we went on to do a litter pick around the sports centre and got a good haul of litter. After tea break we decided enough was enough and we moved into the sports centre to mark up the new tools Julie and I had previously purchased, so you can all look forward to using them now!
Thursday we were out at Bluebell Wood’s in Johnstone, we were supposed to be at Cochrane Castle School but due to the adverse weather conditions the ground was far too wet. We arrived at Bluebell Woods to discover it badly needed a good old fashion tidy up. We collected 14 bags of litter in total and various other objects including an old bicycle.
Even with that massive haul of litter we will need to make a few more visits to clear up the majority of the rubbish as there seems to be a huge amount to collect. Luckily enough the weather seemed like it had planned itself around us and the really heavy rain started just as we got back into the van.
Thanks to all our volunteers for yet another great week of accomplishments.
Kerr.
