On Tuesday we were at the community gardens where we had various task to complete. First of these tasks was building bird boxes which I got put in charge of at first. Ian and Alan were the first people to help me and we put together our box quickly only to realize later on that I had put the roof on upside down. Sorry guys for letting the team down. Another one of the tasks was to collect wood for a wildlife tower which within about 30 minutes was completed thanks to a lot of hard work. After the wood was collected it had to be cut and some would have to have hole drilled in it for the bugs, Jim got this job and had it completed by tea break. The other jobs were to cut back the hedge at the back of the garden and some of the volunteers went on a litter pick in the surrounding area. The cutting back the hedge fell to Eddy, Neil, Simon and Robert and by the time it was done there were scenes reminiscent of our last trip to Muirshiel with cutting piled high.
On Wednesday we were out at Hillview Nursery where we would be clearing one of the patios in the playground of all vegetation. After and incredible effort by the guys we had it cleared by before tea time collecting a total haul of 14 bags of waste. Special mention has to go to John Lyle who carted all of the bags single handedly from the patio to the front of the building for pick up.
Just after tea time with the patio looking spotless we turned out attention to one of the flower beds which needed the soil turning. Once again the guys motored through this and had it finished well within the allotted time which was good for me because it meant that I could get the volunteers to help me clean up and tidy away the tools.
On Thursday we went on a health walk up at Glennifer Braes it was fantastic! The weather could not have been better and I’m sure as you all know it is beautiful up there. We walked up the hill and when we got to the top we could really appreciate the spectacular view. The sky was crystal clear so you could see for miles and miles. We also saw plenty of wildlife including a buzzard and some squirrels. Another treat was that we got to hear, unfortunately not see, a woodpecker. It was a great day and I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn’t been before.
Thanks again to all our volunteers
