Tuesday:
We were out at Polkemmet for a short day, beautiful blue sky but very cold. The morning was spent round the back of the visitor centre. clearing conifer and holly branches away from around a small building. After lunch we cleared some beech trees from a glade and cut the tops off the canes of the trees that we had planted last year.
Wednesday:
Out to Lochend Woods in Dunbar. Another beautiful day with sunshine coming through the canopy. We were clearing brash from the forest floor. Stacked up the fallen material into a large number of habitat piles which now can be seen dotting the area. We were also clearing out the burn which had become clogged over the winter months, the large snowfall creating a large amount of debris. The burn is now running much more freely, so a big thanks to everyone who came out.
Thursday:
Another trip up to Dunbar to carry on the good work of the previous day, we continued to stack the habitat piles high. Many locals commented throughout the day how much better the area was looking thanks to the work. Its always nice to feel appreciated! Lunch was spent basking in the warm sunshine, however the freezing wind countered its effects so wrapping up warm became a definite theme. In the afternoon we split the group for Rachel to take us on another ‘Wildlife Wander’ (Tm) which as ever was fun and informative.
