Tuesday we were out at the community garden in Linwood where we were doing a general tidy up of the bushes.
We were cutting back all of the plants that were over hanging onto the path just behind the garden. We managed to fill 3 massive bags full of cuttings, I found the whole experience quite satisfying I’m sure I heard one or two people describing it being like cutting someone’s hair. Maybe I should become a barber. Jim and Ian also worked tirelessly to turn out the raised beds in the garden. After tea time we also went on a tour of Linwood to scope out some other woodlands that might need some work.
On Wednesday we were out at Cochrane Castle School where we were digging out the raised beds. Now I seem to remember Julie asking for there to be no frost and she got her wish unfortunately it had the opposite of the desired effect and the ground had turned to a gloopy mess. We all ended up completely covered in mud well with the exception of Robbie who some how managed to stay spotless.
Robbie also told me that his New Years resolution is that he will be nice to John Lyle so I’m sure we are al going to help him stick to that. At tea time we had a special treat courtesy of Ian he had brought us some lovely Thornton’s Chocolates so thank you Ian. After tea break and a lot of mud we decided enough was enough and went for a walk around Bluebell woods up past Johnstone Castle which I had never had a proper look at before.
On Thursday we were supposed to be going back to Cochrane Castle School but after a site visit in the morning it turned out to be the same muddy mess as the day before so we decided to go back to Boden Boo in Erskine. We got to Boden Boo and as soon as we walked up the hill we got lost. I also made the mistake of carrying the Stanley knife meaning that I would be the one fighting with the trees trying to liberate them for the tree guards that they had long since out grown. I did however enjoy it, it was quite good fun spotting them and then trying to work out the safest route to get to them avoiding as many branches and thorns as possible.
We then headed down the hill so that we could find Andy who had turned up a little late. Martin in particular enjoyed this so if you happened to be in the area and heard someone screaming “ANDY!” fear not as Andy was located. After the tea break we headed up the shore of the Clyde to do a litter pick we made it all the way to the Erskine Bridge hotel with Martin finding himself a bucket on the way.
Thanks again to all the volunteers for your continuing support.
