Well first and foremost I would like to wish everyone a happy new year. It has been a good start to the New Year so far as we are yet to have any snow meaning that we can finally get some work done. Julie and I are delighted to finally be out of the office after 6 weeks cooped up in it.
On Wednesday we were at Ferguslie Sports Centre where we decided to have a spring clean of the van. First of all Robert mopped out the interior of the van with Robbie’s help and thanks to them the inside of the van is now sparkling clean. While they were doing that Alan began on the outside and it was done in record time but then we had to rinse it down with the hose. Now you will probably find this hard to believe but this turned into a 3 man job with Alan aiming the hose while Robbie and I wrestled the kinks out of it we did however eventually manage to finish the job. After the van was finished we set about tackling the litter around the sports centre a few interest items we found were an office chair, a football and a hoover. We also managed to find four tyres and several car parts probably enough to build a car from.
On Thursday we went to Boden Boo in Erskine to remove some tree guards and do another litter pick. It was a lovely day and everyone was in a good mood so we headed up the hill.
The first tree guard was spotted by Robert and he dove straight in and got that off quite easy. I can’t say the same about most of the others though I personally had to wrestle one from a tree and I swear I heard a sigh of relief from the tree when I took it off. The sort of sigh you’d expect to hear from someone taking trousers that were too tight for them off. I think we managed to liberate around 20 trees from their guards so all in all it was very successful. After tea break we headed down to the beach to do some more litter picking. I was surprised how peaceful it was on the beach considering one of Scotland’s busiest road bridges is above your head. By the end of the day we had collected 12 bags of litter and another wheel from a car, I have no idea how that got so far up the hill.
Thanks to all our volunteers, I will hopefully see you all again soon.
