Well we’d managed to complete 8 weeks, all was going well and people were enjoying the work and the chat. And then the snow came. So the last 2 sessions that had been planned had to be postponed. I was fairly sure that we could have made it to the village, but I don’t think anyone would have been driving back up the steep, winding road. We would have been walking home.
As the snow started to melt at the end of last week, that meant that we were able to squeeze in a 9th session yesterday. We finished clearing the path of ivy, laid the logs along the edge and drove in the stakes to keep them in place. The ground was surprisingly easy to get through, no deep perma-frost layer to contend with, bonus. The track alongside the worksite was, er, interesting shall we say. In fact the postman nearly skidded into a hedge on his way past (at least it wasn’t over the sea-wall). He drove back again a lot slower and with a sheepish little wave. Still, the sun was shining and it was a really nice day to be out and working away. Plus we had goodies to look forward to as we settled down afterwards to the obligatory mince pies and christmassy biscuits.
There’s the last few bits to be completed which will be our 10th and final session in the New Year, after which the Green Gym team will be moving on from West Wemyss to Templehall in Kirkcaldy.
